Dil Chahta Hai (2001) & similar themes |
This path breaking, debut movie of Farhan Akhtrar is a masterpiece of its own kind with brilliant screenplay and fabulous performances. The director rejected the old traditional style of film-making and came up with his own young and energetic ideas. It was a well directed movie which won hearts all over and became a huge success.
Though the movie is not entirely inspired but still it does have a similar outline and ambience as in Reality Bites (1994) & St. Elmo’s Fire (1985). Both these movies are also about some young characters with no clear goals in life and love problems. But "Dil Chahta Hai" is a fine example of a movie which goes beyond any comparisons and establishes itself as a novel and unique experience on its own.
And I loved DCH more than the two foreign flicks mentioned above, due to its youthful humour and freshness.
