This is Shyam Benegal’s sensitive and beautiful movie with a social message. It’s about women, their sacrifices and the treatment they receive in society as they change homes after their marriages. The story is about women who keep the families together and about women who want to break it.

It shows how men play the dominant roles in the families but sometimes they get controlled by the invisible strings in the hands of their wives. It shows how characters undergo an undesired change after one is married and has few children to raise. The screenplay is crafted artistically and it’s a real treat to watch how the same scenes come from different angles each time within new sequences.

The movie is an ensemble of veteran actors and Shabana Azmi & Nandita Das are just perfect in their roles. You love and sympathize with one and simply hate the other. To sum up, it is a must watch for all women, since it is about them and their own sufferings.
