Maya Memsaab (1993) - (Movies To See Before You Die - Love Theme / Drama)

Maya Memsaab - Bobby Talks Cinema.com

Inspired from a western classic, “Maya Memsaab” is sincere and unusual attempt to look into the psyche of a woman. The film tries to read the mysterious mind of a woman, how she thinks, how she feels, why she loves one and hates another, what is she searching in men and what is her real destination.

Deepa Mehta as Maya, lives her role realistically and looks ravishing and mysterious too. Portraying a weird and unexplained character, she makes the viewer feel the confusion and chaos going on in her mind. She is simply superb in all the strange, shocking & unexpected acts given to her by the director.

Shahrukh Khan also gives a sober yet passionate performance as Maya’s young lover. But a very silent and controlled performance comes from the veteran Farukh Sheikh as the husband of Deepa. He looks completely helpless in from of his wife and you can understand the pain he is going through with his perfect facial expressions. In short, one of the best movie from the Art Cinema wave which got lost in the early nineties.

Directed By Ketan Mehta
Starring : Deepa Mehta, Farukh Sheikk & Shahrukh Khan
Music By Hridyanath Mangeshkar

Hi Mustafa,
Yes you are very right that the film deserves a lot more to be written on it keeping in mind its uniqueness and brilliant direction. But actually these are the posts which I used to write in a very brief form before I started writing in details at the site post 2009-10.
However as I get time I do keep on adding more to important films like these and would soon update it surely.

Regarding the inspiration angle, 7 Khoon Maaf was based on a novel by Ruskin Bond and Maya Memsaab has its own long story of inspirations given in the post at the following link :

Keep Visiting and Writing In,
Cheers!

Dear Bobby,

Today I just checked the \"LOVE THEME\" list (for referring some good romantic movies) and glad to see this particular movie. I think this one of the most underrated movie. I would also include (if I would asked to make) \"Dil Se\" in the list as this is one of the few (or may be alone) which deals with the seven stages of love (as per Arabic Litrature).

Yes Zeeshan, this certainly is one of those unerrated romantic as well as insightful gems from Hindi Cinema, famous for all wrong reasons.

However regarding "Dil Se", I would really like to know about the seven stages of love (as per Arabic Litrature) it deals with. So do share more or some link if possible.

Cheers!
HIS BLESSINGS
