Metro or Life in a Metro (2007) & its inspirational sources. |
“Metro” is a well made film having more than one inspirational source. The main story plot of the movie is from the 1960, black & white classic "The Apartment", in which the hero keeps obliging his top officials with the key of his apartment for their own enjoyment . The plot was also borrowed in Amitabh Bachchan’s "Raaste Ka Patthar" in 1972. But Anurag Basu surely came up with the better adaptation in Metro.
The sub-plot of the love Affair between Shipla Shetty And Shiny Ahuja is straightaway from Sir David Lean's "Brief Encounter" (1945). The sequence in which Shilpa leaves Shiny Ahuja's house, after the entrance of his friend, is exactly same as in the masterpiece English flick. It is to be noted that "Brief Encounter" is considered as one of the Top Rated Masterpieces of English Cinema, so it is always at the back of the minds of intense and emotional film-makers. Hence the reference, may be a kind of tribute from Anurag Basu to the master film-maker Sir David Lean.
