Mughal-e-Azam (1960) - (Movies To See Before You Die - Historical) |
One of the costliest yet most successful movies of Indian Film History. The film is also considered as the most grand and lavish flick ever made in Indian Cinema. Though you can call it a bit dramatic in current times, but still it is a treat to watch Prithviraj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar & Madhubala together on the celluloid playing historical characters.
The new coloured version is not recommended as its more looking all fake and deliberate. The Black & White version has more depth in it and leaves a better impact on the viewer. Making a historical epic of such scale at that time of the century is really unimaginable. It took more than 10 years to complete this epic and the effort just shows on the screen. The unforgettable musical score by Naushad is also included among the finest works of the maestro. The melodious songs and their brilliant picturisation is still remembered as one of the most imaginative works on Indian Silver Screen. A fine example of Cinematic Class.
