When Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Mukesh all sang together in one song. (Did You Know - 25)

26 Aug, 2010 | Did You Know!

Bollywood movie lovers living all over the world are well familiar with “Amar Akbar Anthony”, one of the most famous movies of both Amitabh Bachchan and director Manmohan Desai. Along with its brilliant comic sequences featuring Amitabh and Rishi Kapoor, the movie had Vinod Khanna completing the trilogy in a tough role standing against his biggest competitor of that time, Amitabh Bachchan.

But apart from these many renowned merits, the film also had a rare and amusing fact associated with its melodious music which probably remains the only example in the history of Hindi Film music wherein the four most respected stalwarts of our Indian Cinema performed together in a song for the entire lead star-cast.

The song was “Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai Pyar Kya Karein” in which Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar all sang together probably for the first and last time.

Mohd. Rafi sang for Rishi Kapoor, Kishore Kumar for Amitabh Bachchan, Mukesh for Vinod Khanna and Lata Mangeshkar for all the three female actresses, Shabana Azmi, Neetu Singh and Parveen Babi.

Moreover this particular song of the movie also stands out of the entire soundtrack as in it the composer Laxmikant Pyarelal very insightfully incorporated the essence of Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities in an unique and intelligent way. Just listen to the western arrangements in the start of the song with all the strings and a choir singing in the interlude generating an Anthony kind of impact.  Then in the middle, the use of Duff, giving it an ethnic kind of traditional feel representing Amar. And later on the insertion of Qawwali beats with the group claps to suit the character of the naughty Akbar. Simply an outstanding achievement by the director, music directors, singers, choreographers and all the actors involved in the song.

Cheers!

This song is priceles gem in the indian music history. And it came from none other than LP as music directors and Anand Baksh as Lyricist. The four great singers give their best in this song.I wonder how it must have felt when they all sang on the same platform standing next to each other. What a moment....!!!

Another song which comes to my mind is close to this historical piece is from the movie KRANTI (old).
This movie also had music by LP and the song "Chana Jor Garam" had all three above singers namely Lata,Rafi and Kishore and Nitin Mukesh , i guess taking place for his late father Mukesh. This song is still popular and refreshing.
Both these songs were rich in melody and arrangement. LP\'s music rocks....

Bobby Sing

Rightly said Kenny G and thanks for adding up a valuable info on another song.

I will surely add this up in the article with you name to make it more complete.

Thanks Once Again and Keep Visiting......Cheers!

rahul natthani

bahut hi badhiya collection hai yaha information ka. padh kar achha laga.

muze ek gaane ke bare me jaan na tha, jo kishore kumar ne amitabh ji ke liye gaya hai wohi gana rafi sahab ne bhi usi film me kisi dusre actor ke liye gaaya tha?

Bobby Sing

Thanks Rahul for your appreciation.

I think the song you are looking for is "Zindagi To Bewafa Hai / Rote Hue Aate Hain Sab" from Muqaddar Ka Sikandar.
The happy version of it was sung by Kushore Kumar whereas the climax sad version was sung by Mohd. Rafi Saab. Hope you find the info right and valuable.

Keep Visiting and Cheers!

Anees-ur-Rehman

That song was "Tum bin jaaon kahaan" film "pyar ka mosam".
This theme song (Tum bin jaoon kahan) is played several times in the film: Mohammed Rafi\'s version is picturized on the hero Shashi Kapoor three times, while Kishore Kumar\'s version is picturized on Bharat Bhushan twice.

Bobby Sing

Dear Anees-ur-Rehman,
It seems you have taken the post in a different manner cause here its not about any two three versions of a song sung by various singers.
But here its actually about a single song (only one in the film as well as soundtrack) which has been sung by all these maestros together.

Keep Visiting and Writing in,
Cheers!

Chirag

Hi
Another song where Rafi, Kishore and Mukesh sang with Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar (and I don\'t know if there was a 3rd female singer) altogether was Rang Jamake Jayenge from Naseeb.
Cheers.

Bobby Sing

Yes Chirag, but actually the big difference here is of LATA Ji only. So please let me know if you find another song with the four maestros together.
Cheers!

Vishal

Mr. Chirag, that song was rafi, kishore, asha & usha all together. Mukesh was not there in the song.

kausik chakraborty

Could you please list the song, where kishore, asha and lata-all sung together? there is a beautiful melody which I am not being able locate. Not the "Aap ke Deewane" song.......!

Bobby Sing

Hi Kaushik Chakraborty,
Though there are several Kishore-Lata and Kishore-Asha duets but at the moment cant recall any song with the trio together other than the mentioned above in the various comments.
But would surely update the moment I get any update on the same.

Cheers!

Jon
Agree, the Naseeb song did not have Mukesh in it! He died in 1976 and Naseeb was released in 1981! Only the AAA song has all three of them in it.
Bobby Sing

:) Keep Visiting and Writing in.

Hi Salman,
Thanks for writing in but actually there are so many sad songs of these artists as duets.
So would like to to suggest that please go through all the comments below the post as you will get to know many more important songs in it that might be useful.

Srinu

Rafi is irreplaceble & indispensable at the same time others are also incomparable.
This goes like trend and wave with passage of time. The fall out of Rafi is not about his voice but a change in trend & diplomacy together caused storm in the music industry?

Bobby Sing

Yes Srinu1940, that's right about the maestro Mohd. Rafi and the other exponents too.
Thanks for visiting and writing in,
Cheers!

Shurin
What about Rampur ka Laxman... pyar ka samai?
Bobby Sing

Dear Shurin,
Please re-check if that song also has Mukesh singing in it too?

Atul Kumar

Can anyone tell me. there is song of kishore and other singers. This song is picturised on rajesh khanna and others. but kishore Kumar did not sing for rajesh khanna in this song. can any one tell me the song.

Bobby Sing

Dear Arun,
It will be great if you can give some more info about the song if possible as that will make it easier to guess.
Cheers!

dhananjay

Actually for Abhiman, Rishida want three top singers to sing for Amitabh Bachchan. Meet na mile re man ka (Kishor) , Teri Bindioya re (Rafi with Lata) Thease two songs were composed by SD. For Mukesh there was one song but due unavailability of Mukesh this song was sung by Mnhar Udhas . Song was Loote koi Man ka nagar with Lata!

If the original schedule was worked that will be unique incidence.

Bobby Sing

Thanks a lot Dhananjay for your valuable comment.
Actually this gives me an idea of writing a complete article on this, pointing towards another unique feature of ABHIMAAN not mentioned anywhere.

With a big thanks once again, keep visiting and writing in.
HIS BLESSINGS

Few points:
1) Yes, that\'s the only song in the Hindi Cinema sung by greatest singers ever (Rafi - Mukesh - Kishore - Lata) guess they had missed Asha (and to some extend Usha but the last was not popular though but must have included Asha.

2) The song \'Rang Jama Ke Jaaeinge\' from Naseeb (1981) has not Mukesh but Shailendra Singh (for Rishi Kapoor)

3) Mukesh died before the release of Kabhi Kabhie (1976), else I am sure greatest composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal would have used his voice in all the songs of Kranti (1981) replacing his son Nitin Mukesh

4) Its impossible to say who was the greatest Rafi or Kishore (and Mukesh)? Both were very popular in their respective eras like that of Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor (and Dev Anand); likewise can someone say who is the greatest Rajesh Khanna or Amitabh Bachcan? Both have greatest fan-falling. I am more Kishore Da fan but I think Kishore was almost unknown in 1940s and 50s and even till mid-late 1960s. Similarly, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have huge number of fans but why is Salman Khan more popular, its funny but reality. I think we all have thinks in our own minds and think and want to hear from others that way.

My list of the greatest singers of Hindi Cinema would be Noor Jehan - Rafi - Mukesh - Kishore - Lata and Asha and then a full-stop. The is quite huge but they are not legends. Same I would say it was Dilip Kumar - Raj Kapoor - Dev Anand - Rajesh Khanna - Amitabh Bachcan and then a full-stop.

Cheers All,

Bobby Sing

Thanks for your interesting detailed comment Yugpurush.
Will add another exclusive reference to the article soon in the next few days.

My dear dharmendra is the greatest survivor. Dharmendra is the big name than Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna and Raj Kapoor.

Bobby Sing

Thanks for writing in Rakesh Kumar.

Pravin Odedra
Hello guys! It would be appreciated if you can tell me the songs where Kishore kumar, Md. Rafi and Lata mangeshkar sang together Or Udit narayan, Kumar sanu and Alka yagnik I mean songs with 2 male singers and 1 female singer Thank you
Bobby Sing

Hi Praveen,
Such songs can actually be searched in all love triangle films with two heroes and one heroine made in different eras. And there are many of such kind in our Hindi Cinema. For instance, Aap Ke Deewane, Dostana, Saajan and more.
Looking for such movies you would easily get the songs featuring the three artists.

Cheers!

nab

The title song of movie DILLAGI has many famous singers in it namely Udit Narayen, Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik, Jaspinder Nirula, Hari Haran and others.

Bobby Sing

Thanks for visiting and writing in Nab.
Cheers!

Rakesh Modi

I want to tell everyone that there is only 1 movie of RD Burman where lata, asha, kishore, mukesh & rafi  all 5 great singers have sung songs in a single movie...its mukti...can anyone tell any LP movie like this?

Bobby Sing

Thanks for the valuable addition Rakesh Modi.
Though I cannot recall any such movie of LP at this moment but its possible there might be.
Lets see if any friend reading this can come up with a name.

Keep Visiting and Writing in,

Rajib Gope

No most us got it wrong. There is one more song as far as I know which is sung by great 5....chanajot garam from Kranti.

Bobby Sing

Dear Rajib Gope,
Thanks for visiting and writing in but please allow me to correct you here about the fact.
Though if you had read a chapter on this song in my book DID YOU KNOW Vol1 then you must have got it but here it is to clarify the doubts.

The song Chana Jor Garam has been sung by Lata, Rafi, Kishore and Nitin Mukesh.
Mukesh sadly died long before Kranti was conceived.
However the song still has value for the same as mentioned in my book.

Keep Visiting and Writing,
Cheers!

RAKESH RAO

Dear Mr. Bobby Sing,
Greetings,
I discovered your blog last month and since then, I have been hooked to it. Some unheard trivias apart, you have shared some deep insights about songs. Thanks for making many like me, listen/view some songs with a different perspective.
Like you mentioned in one of your responses above that a song with three singers is easy to find in movies, where the central theme is a love-triangle. But there are very few songs which features four singers.
Can you help find a song with FIVE known singers apart from the one from "Jis Desh mein ganga behti hai'?

Will be waiting for your response.
Thanks again and keep us guided.
Regards,

Bobby Sing

Dear Rakesh Rao,
Thanks a lot for writing in with your kind praises as that kind of encouragement really helps and provides the much needed support.
Regarding more than four singers in a song, they are not many but you will find them only in multistarrer films such as Kranti, Raj Tilak and more.
Will try to find for sure and get back.
Keep visiting and writing in,
Regards

Vaddepalli Shridhar

Hello Bobby,

Interesting information is shared by you.

I would like to share one information where eight singers were used for one song. One male singer and seven female singers. In the movie Vidhaata, the song "Saath saheliyan khadi khadi" where Kishore Kumar, Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal, Sadhana Sargam, Padmini Kolhapure, Shivangi Kolhapure, Kanchan and Hemlatha voice was used.

Some contribution from my side.

Bobby Sing

Hi Vaddepalli Shridhar,
Thanks for writing in and for mentioning another important song.
Actually I had written a short note on this song for a publication long back but a detailed article is still pending.
Thanks a lot for reminding me as it is also one of the few songs Kishore Kumar sang for Shammi Kapoor.

Keep Visiting and Writing in.
Cheers!

Shabnam

The song, Rahega jahaan Mein tera naam, from the incomplete movie 'Love and God' was sung by the following singers: Lata Mangeshkar, Suman Kalyanpur, Mohd. Rafi, Talat Mahmood, Mukesh, Manna Dey, Hemant Kumar, Khan Mastana and S. Balbir!
Here is a link:
https://youtu.be/9Bl7NastQrc

Bobby Sing

Thanks for writing in Shabnam.
But there are a few corrections required in your comment.
1. The film was incomplete but it was somehow completed with the available footage and released by K. C. Bokadia in 1986 in the theaters.
2. The particular song has been sung by Mohd. Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, Talat Mehmood, Balbir and Chorus. But the other singers mentioned in your comment are not there. You can check the LP of the soundtrack for the same. The official singers mentioned on the LP only are considered for historical records. For instance Mohd. Rafi sang in chorus in the beginning of his career in the song sung by K. L Saigal but that is not mentioned officially on records. Besides both Mukesh and Kishore Kumar are not there in the ensemble.
3. The above song still isnt anything equivalent to the only song sung by the four singers together in the history of Hindi cinema as mentioned in the article.

Keep visiting and writing in.
Regards
