Crash (2004) - (Movies To See Before You Die - Thriller)

17 Mar, 2009 | Movies To See Before You Die / Thrillers

A beautiful emotional picture, painted on the celluloid and a remarkable piece of work, on the most shameful truth of our educated society……the racism. Unfortunately the problem of racial biases is still there in major parts of the world and “Crash” is one of the best flicks on this topic. Multiple characters with different but inter-connected storyline is the base of its script, which shows how people from various backgrounds deal with this racial discrimination problem in their life.

The director, has skillfully shot some of the most powerful scenes, like the sequence of shooting the girl child and the car accident in the climax. The visualisation in these particular sequences is simply superb. It truly deserved the three Oscars won for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing of 2005 at the 78th Academy Awards. The film came with a very fresh outlook towards an old theme and was a completely unexpected contender at the awards (since it was shot at a very limited budget).

Irrespective of its lack of grandeur, the movie leaves an immense impact on the viewer. The situations and sequences in the script are very similar to what we all experience in our daily life, especially by the people living in that part of the world. In fact that was the reason why the movie instantly connected with the people and got a unanimous response from all sectors, becoming a huge hit. A great movie recommended for a thoughtful viewing.
